The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Training will inform participants about how to support clients to access the NDIS and how to complete an NDIS Individual Support Package (ISP) application for best client results.

This training is designed to inform and support the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Care Organisation (ATSICCHO) employees working with clients who are potential NDIS program participants. The workshop will provide a greater understanding of the NDIS application process, to better equip ATSICCHO staff to understand the eligibility criteria and complete ISP applications.

The training will have a clinical focus and is recommended for individuals in the following roles:

  • Clinic Manager
  • General Practitioner
  • Registered Nurse
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner/Worker
  • Social Emotional and Wellbeing (SEWB) worker
  • Aged Care or Disability Support Worker
  • Senior Management.

The training objectives are:

  • Ability to effectively provide evidence to support an NDIS ISP application.
  • Increased understanding of NDIS legislation and how it is applied.
  • Increased understanding of psychosocial disability criteria.
  • Increased understanding of how NDIS application and access decisions are made.
  • Increased confidence in talking about/explaining the NDIS access requirements with clients and networks.
  • Increased understanding of how a medical professional may demonstrate a client’s ‘functional capacity’.
