Justin Saunders

Central QLD/Wide Bay Director

Chief Executive Officer, Central Queensland Regional Aboriginal and Islander Community Controlled Organisation (CQRAICCHO)

Justin Saunders is a Bigambul/Gungurri man from South West Queensland. For some 20 years he has been involved in this state’s Aboriginal affairs, both mainstream and community controlled. During this time Justin has achieved qualifications in, and worked, across the fields of Education, Aboriginal Health and Health Service Management. More recently he has been Chairperson of Black Community Housing Service for six years.

As CEO of a lead corporate entity, CQRAICCHO, Justin oversights the provision of primary health care services undertaken by Aboriginal medical centres across the region: Rockhampton’s Bidgerdii Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Service; Barambah Regional Medical Service; Nhulundu Wooribah Indigenous Health Organisation Incorporated at Gladstone; and Galangoor Duwalami Primary Health Care Service in Torquay, Hervey Bay.

Justin describes what motivates his continued involvement in the Indigenous health sector as a striving towards: self-determination; and decreasing the burden of illness and chronic disease. His ambition is to see our people take control and make informed decision about their health and their social and emotional wellbeing.

He admits to a level of enjoyment and achievement in meeting and taking on the challenges of working in the Community Controlled Sector.
